Science Meets Animal Welfare

Delivering Non-invasive Solutions for Wildlife Care

For over four decades, scientists have trusted Enzo’s steroid hormone ELISA kits to deliver sensitivity and reproducibility

With thousands of species each year listed as endangered or threatened, the work done by biologists around the world to understand and preserve animal health is never ending.

Reproduction studies and stress are two of the most common concerns today, as each species has its unique set of challenges that affect the biology and stresses related to rescue efforts, rehabilitation, and mating.

Hormone analysis continues to be widely accepted for monitoring stress response and evaluating reproductive health on wildlife. Non-invasive sampling methods have gained popularity in the last few decades for monitoring stress, reproductive physiology, animal behavior, and overall animal health. Enzyme immunoassays continue to be the non-invasive method of choice for endocrine monitoring.

Enzo Life Sciences provides a broad range of immunoassay kits for monitoring stress, reproductive physiology, health and welfare, and survival of wildlife animals.

  • Non-invasive – no need for challenging sample collection procedures
  • High-sensitivity – confidently detect low concentrations of target
  • High reproducibility – be confident that you will have reproducibility between samples and lots
  • Species independent – use the same kits for all studies, no need for separate species-specific kits

Involved for Decades in Animal Welfare

For decades, scientists have trusted Enzo’s steroid hormone ELISA kits to deliver sensitivity and reproducibility. Enzo provides a broad range of immunoassay kits for monitoring stress, reproductive physiology, health and welfare, and survival of wildlife. Our most popular ELISAs for the quantification of 17β-estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, and corticosterone have been cited in numerous publications and protocols shared by zoos, aquariums, and conservation scientists worldwide, allowing us to create and share an extensive database of knowledge for methods that benefit creatures both large and small.

What is your application?

Animal Stress Monitoring

Just like humans, animals can be affected by stress. Animals tend to hide their stress. Stress can be caused by environmental changes, aging, disease, or other life events. Understanding factors that affect stress in animals is vital for improving overall animal care and conservation.

Stress-related hormones in animals can be measured using feces, urine, hair, plasma, serum or saliva. The goal is to establish baseline stress levels to determine how changes in an animal’s environment, social group or other factors may impact zoochosis.

Reproductive Health

Every species has its own unique reproductive cycle which is dependent on biology and environment. To ensure the long-term health of a species population, one can measure hormone levels and gain insight into animal reproductive cycles to ensure they are fertile and ready for breeding.
