Chemerin (TIG2; RARRES2) is a chemoattractant protein, natural ligand for the G protein-coupled receptor CMKLR1 [ChemR23; DEZ] and thought to have a role in adaptive and innate immunity. Recently, chemerin has been identified as an adipokine. The serum level of chemerin in human has been found to correlate with BMI, circulating triglycerides, and blood pressure and the protein has been shown to be important for adipocyte differentiation. Chemerin has been shown to stimulate insulin-dependent glucose uptake into adipocytes.
