Scientific Background: | p16INK4a (p16, CDKN2A) is a tumor suppressor that inhibits the progression of the cell cycle through the G1 phase. p16 expression is associated with high-risk human papillomavirus in cervical cancer, and head and neck tumors. It is frequently deleted or mutated in tumors such as melanomas, gliomas, esophageal, pancreatic, lung, urinary bladder carcinomas, and some types of leukemias; making p16 a key marker for cancer research. |
