27-Hydroxycholesterol (27-HC) is a metabolite resulting from the action of sterol 27-Hydroxylase on cholesterol. It is an endogenous selective estrogen receptor modulator and ligand for the liver X receptor (LXR). 27-Hydroxycholesterol plays a role in Alzheimer's disease, oxidative stress, metabolism, cell-signaling, and heart disease.
