Major mono-unsaturated fatty acid constituent of olive oil occurring as the glyceride. Activates protein kinase C (PKC) in hepatocytes. Inhibitor of glucose production and food intake. Upregulates the expression of uncoupling protein-3 (UCP-3) in L6 myotubes. Promotes differentiation of cultured neuronal cells mediated via PPARβ and it induces a myofibroblast-like phenotype in mesangial cells.
