Monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 (MCP1; MCAF; HC11; CCL2) is secreted by a variety of tissues and plays a key role in the recruitment of monocytes to sites of inflammation. It is also secreted from adipose tissue and its overexpression in transgenic animals can cause insulin resistance. MCP1 has also been shown to modulate adipocyte metabolism.
