Scientific Background: | Human interferon-γ (IFN-γ) is an inflammatory cytokine secreted by T lymphocytes and natural killer (NK) cells. IFN-γ is primarily characterized as an activator of macrophages, and is the principle cytokine produced by CD4+ inflammatory TH1 cells. IFN-γ signals are transmitted via a heterodimeric IFNGR1/IFNGR2 receptor which activates transcription of immunoregulatory genes via the Jak/Stat pathway. |
