Scientific Background: | NF-κB is sequestered in the cytoplasm by IκBα, unable to translocate to the nucleus. IκB is part of the canonical pathway for NF-κB activation. IKKβ is part of the IκB kinase complex, along with a second catalytic subunit, IKKα, and a regulatory subunit, IKKγ. Along with IKKα, IKKβ phosphorylates IκBα leading to its degradation and release of inhibition of NF-κB. The RELA subunit of active NF-κB is then free to enter the nucleus and initiate a number of signaling cascades. |
