| Scientific Background: | The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the folate receptor (FOLR) family. Members of this gene family have a high affinity for folic acid, several reduced folic acid derivatives, and mediate delivery of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate to the interior of cells. Human FOLR1 shares 83% amino acid sequence identitiy with mouse and rat FOLR1. FOLR1 is up-regulated on many carcinomas, such as ovarian, and predominantly expressed on epithelial cells. |
