Scientific Background: | Beta2-microglobulin is a 12-14kDa subunit of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I. Beta2-microglobulin is a non-polymorphic molecule and is not involved in peptide binding, but is essential for MHC assembly. Beta2-microglobulin is also found in free form in the plasma. MHC class I is expressed on most nucleated cells in the caiman, including red blood cells. |
