|
Scientific Background: | This enzyme can hydrolyze both cAMP and cGMP, but has a higher affinity for cAMP. In the brain it is present in neuronal cell bodies and neuropil of the striatum, in striatonigral and striatopallidal white matter tracks, and in the substantia nigra and globus pallidus. Outside the brain it is found in the testis, epididymal sperm, and enteric ganglia. It is under investigation as a drug target for schizophrenia and diabetes. |
