The His-tagged protein, in contrast to the dimeric GST-tagged recombinant enzyme (SE-195), is monomeric. Under ordinary conditions, the monomeric enzyme autophosphorylates to only half the extent of the dimeric construct and consequently has 10-100 fold lower activity with exogenous peptide substrates. It can, however, be fully activated by autophosphorylation in the presence of an aggregating agent such as poly-L-lysine.
