Scientific Background: | Src, a non-receptor type tyrosine kinase, is a proto-oncogene that plays key roles in cell morphology, motility, proliferation, and survival. Src is overexpressed and activated in a large number of human cancers. Oncogenic forms of Src alter cell structure and affect thin filaments and adhesion networks that control cell migration. Src also influences the RhoA-ROCK pathway that controls actin polymerization, the STAT family of transcription factors which are involved in tumorigenesis and the Cbl ubiquitin ligase that controls Src protein levels. |
