FrPbAII is a component of the Parawixia bistriata spider venom. It has been shown to be a selective inhibitor of GABA and glycine uptake (IC50=65µM and 62µM respectively) with little or no effect on monoamine or glutamate transporters. It produces neuroprotective effects in a rat retinal ischemia/reperfusion model displaying remarkable reduction in cell death. It also abolishes convulsive tonic-clonic seizures induced by bicuculline (Prod. No. BML-EA149) in rats. Active in vivo. Crosses the blood-retina barrier.
