Scientific Background: | The GST superfamily of enzymes play an important role in detoxification of xenobiotics by catalyzing the conjugation of many hydrophobic and electrophilic compounds with reduced glutathione. There are four main GST classes; alpha, mu, pi, and tau. GST-P is a member of the pi class of GSTs, and its expression is specifically increased in the early stages of rat hepatocarcinogenesis. Due to its high affinity for glutathione, GST is frequently utilized as an approximately 26 kDa fusion tag for the expression and purification of recombinant proteins. |
