The major proteins that form caveolae are the caveolins of which there are three major isoforms. Caveolin-2 has been shown to positively regulate Caveolin-1-dependent caveolae biogenesis and this phenomenon is contingent on the phosphorylation of Caveolin-2 on serines 23 and 36. |
