Scientific Background: | VEGF (Vascular endothelial growth factor) is a potent polypeptide regulator of blood vessel function. VEGF promotes an array of responses in the endothelium, including hyperpermeability, endothelial cell growth, angiogenesis, and enhanced glucose transport. Several alternate splice isoforms of VEGF are known. Two high-affinity receptors for VEGF, VEGFR1 and VEGFR2, have been identified and characterized. |
