Scientific Background: | Carbonic anhydrase 2 is essential for bone resorption and osteoclast differentiation. It catalyzes the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. It can hydrate cyanamide to urea. It is also involved in the regulation of fluid secretion into the anterior chamber of the eye. Carbonic anhydrase contributes to intracellular pH regulation in the duodenal upper villous epithelium during proton-coupled peptide absorption. Carbonic anhydrase 2 also stimulates the chloride-bicarbonate exchange activity of SLC26A6 |
