Zolpidem Metabolite I is the major metabolite of zolpidem. Zolpidem is a non-benzodiazepine compound that acts as an agonist to the GABA-Aγ1 subunit, which has been shown to treat insomia. Intake of zolpidem can be detected by quantification of the metabolites produced. Zolpidem metabolite I shows two absorption peaks in methanol. It emits blue fluorescence upon exiting at 303 nm in water (λem= 373 nm).
