Bac5 is a 5-kDa proline-arginine rich antibiotic with a high degree of homology with PR39, an inhibitor of the 20S and 26S proteasome. Recently bactenecin 5 has been demonstrated to inhibit the chymotrypsin-like activity of the 20S proteasome.
