Inhibitor of Akt (protein kinase B; PKB) in an in vitro lung carcinogenesis progression model. Inhibits cell proliferation - cells accumulate in the G2-M phase of the cell cycle. Premalignant and malignant human brochial epithelial cells are highly sensitive to deguelin compared to normal cells. Induces apoptosis. Exhibits a marked inhibitory effect on mouse skin tumor promotion in an in vivo two-stage carcinogenesis test. Inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression.
