Scientific Background: | The subtype 1 neurotensin receptor (NTS1) is a seven-transmembrane domain containing G protein coupled receptor (GPCR) that mediates most of the known effects of neurotensin. NTS1 activates a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system in the central and peripheral nervous systems, mediating such functions as hypotension, hyperglycemia, hypothermia, antinociception, and the regulation of intestinal motility and secretion. NTS1 signaling is primarily mediated via coupling to Gq/G11 family G proteins, although coupling of NTS1 through Gs and Gi/o family proteins has been shown to modulate both adenylate and guanylate cyclase activity. |
