| Miscellaneous/General: | Ubiquitin specific protease-25 (USP25) is a vertebrate specific deubiquitinating enzyme. Three alternative splice variants have been identified; two ubiquitously expressed and one, the longer isoform USP25m, restricted to expression in muscular tissues where it is upregulated during myogenesis. Whilst its biological function and regulation have yet to be fully elucidated, increased USP25 expression levels have been observed in Down syndrome fetal brains and in breast cancer tissue. USP25 is also a target for SUMO modification, which takes place within its two ubiquitin intreaction motifs and has been shown to impair it’s binding to and hydrolysis of polyubiquitin chains. |
