14-3-3 proteins are phosphoserine- and phosphothreonine-binding proteins, and as a family are known to be involved in the regulation of many crucial processes such as signal transduction, cell-cycle control, apoptosis, protein localization, phosphorylation state and stability, transcription, metabolism, and malignant transformation. 14-3-3τ/θ (τ in humans, θ in mice) interaction with CDC25c regulates entry into the cell cycle and apoptosis can be prevented following interaction with Bad. 14-3-3 τ/θ (τ in humans, θ in mice) has been shown to be present in testis and 14-3-3τ mRNA is up-regulated in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis spinal cord.
