N-Arachidonoyl-L-serine is an endocannabinoid isolated from bovine brain. It binds only very weakly to cannabinoid CB
1 and CB
2 receptors as well as vannilloid TRPV1 receptors. However, it produces endothelium-dependent vasodilation in rat isolated mesenteric arteries and abdominal aorta. It also suppresses LPS-induced TNFα production in a murine macrophage cell line and in mice. Its biological profile closely parallels that of abnormal cannabidiol an agonist at a putative novel cannabinoid-like receptor.
Thus N-arachidonoyl-L-serine may be an endogenous agonist for this receptor.
