The Mît-E-ψ Kit detects the change in mitochondrial permeability which is an early indication of the initiation of cellular apoptosis. The resulting change in membrane potential (δψ), can be detected by a unique fluorescent cationic dye, 5,5’6,6’-tetrachloro-1,1’,3,3’-tetraethyl-benzamidazolocarbocyanin iodide (JC-1). Non-apoptotic cells will fluoresce red, and apoptotic cells will fluoresce green. This dye has been incorporated into the user-friendly Mît-E-ψ Kit for the simple and reproducible detection of the collapse of the membrane potential in apoptotic cells. Cells can be analyzed by FACS, fluorescent plate reader, or fluorescence microscopy (excitation between 488-490 nm, and emission at 527 and 590 nm.).
