IL-12, a disulfide-linked 70 kDa protein composed of the subunits p40 and p30, is primarily produced by antigen-presenting cells (APCs), such as macrophages, monocytes, and dendritic cells (DCs), following their activation by recognition of pathogen-specific patterns [2]. IL-12 induces secretion of IFN-γ and promotes T-helper 1 (Th1) cell proliferation and differentiation [2]. |
