Inhibitor of aspartate (acid) proteases, including pepsin, cathepsin D, renin, chymosin, bacterial aspartic proteinases and HIV proteases. Efficiently inhibits Fcγ receptor induction by IFN-γ. Blocks the endocytic pathway followed by an antibody when it enters the cell at the level of early endosomal compartments, resulting in inhibition of autoantigen presentation or viral transmission. Suppresses p-53-dependent apoptosis in lymphoid cells as well as TNFα-induced apoptosis in U937 cells. Inhibits degradation of autophagic cargo inside autophagolysosomes.
