Scientific Background:Viperin has been identified as a human cytomegalovirus and IFN-γ inducible protein. Its expression is activated by both TLR3-dependent and RIG-I-dependent pathways. Viperin inhibits influenza A virus release of infected cells by altering plasma membrane fluidity and the formation of lipid rafts. It acts on the lipid rafts by decreasing the activity of the enzyme farnesyl diphosphate synthase (FPPS) which is essential for isoprenoid biosynthesis.

Regulatory Status:RUO - Research Use Only

Viperin polyclonal antibody (AT131) Western blot
Figure: Detection of mouse Viperin in L929 cells by Western Blot using PAb to Viperin (AT131) (Prod. No. ALX-210-956) Method: Cell extracts from L929 cell either unstimulated (lane 1) or stimulated for 24h with poly(dA.dT) poly(dT.dA) at 3μg/ml (lane 2) were resolved by SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions, transferred to nitrocellulose and incubated with the PAb to Viperin (AT131) at a 1:1000 dilution for 1 hour. Proteins were visualized using a peroxidase-conjugated polyclonal antibody to rabbit IgG and a chemiluminescence detection system."
