Miscellaneous/General:BAG (Bcl-2-associated athanogene) family proteins contain a BAG domain and interact with a variety of partners including heat shock proteins, steroid hormone receptors, Bcl-2 and Raf-1. BAG-1 and BAG-3 participate in a wide variety of cellular processes including signalling, transcription, stress response, and apoptosis. BAG-1 functions as a nucleotide exchange factor of mammalian cytosolic HSC70, thereby triggering substrate unloading from the chaperone. In addition BAG-1 associates with the proteasome, playing a role in coordinating chaperone and degradation pathways. Aberrant BAG-1 expression has been observed in certain human cancers.
