Source/Host:Produced in E. coli. The mature peptide of human GPX2 is fused at the C-terminus to a 6x His-tag.

Long Term Storage:-20°C

Use/Stability:Centrifuge before opening the vial and reconstitute the lyophilized protein in an appropiate buffer.

Handling:After reconstitution, prepare aliquots and store at -20°C.
Avoid freeze/thaw cycles.
For maximum product recovery after thawing, centrifuge the vial before opening the cap.

Miscellaneous/General:Antioxidant enzyme. Plays a role in the detoxification of ingested hydroperoxides. Probably plays a role in tumor development. Selenium is an essential component of several major metabolic pathways including the  tyroid hormone metabolism, antioxidant defence systems and immune functions. Analysis of the selenoproteome identified five glutathione peroxidases (GPxs) in mammals (GPX1-4 and GPX6). All GPxs have a clearly antioxidant function by reducing hydroperoxides to the corresponding alcohols using reduced glutathione (GSH) as a cofactor. Additionally, GPxs have been proposed to play a role in the development of tumors. For example, GPx1 has been shown to be down-regulated in many cancer cells. Contrary, GPx2, which is highly expressed in the liver and the gastrointestinal tract, but not in heart or kidney, has been shown to be up-regulated in cancer cells. GPx1/GPx2 double knockout mice are prone to develop colitis and intestinal cancer.
